FC Barcelona have announced that Spanish forward Lamine Yamal is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury during Wednesday’s match against RC Celta de Vigo.
The young star is, however, expected to be fit for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The club said, “Tests this Thursday have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg. The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. He will miss the remainder of the league season but is expected to be available for the World Cup.”
Yamal picked up the injury in Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over RC Celta de Vigo in La Liga action on Wednesday.
Spain’s national football team open their World Cup campaign in Group H against Cape Verde on June 15, before facing Saudi Arabia on June 21 and concluding group play against Uruguay six days later.
The teenage Spanish star, who has scored six goals in 25 appearances since making his debut in 2023, won and converted a penalty to secure a narrow home victory.
But after beating Ionut Radu from the spot, Yamal pulled up injured immediately, called for treatment and lay on the turf as team-mates came over to celebrate.
The right winger was replaced by Roony Bardghji.
The result moved Barcelona nine points clear of Real Madrid CF at the top of the table with six matches remaining, including an El Clásico on May 10.
