Bauchi Political Thug Chops Off Man’s Wrist, Police Arrest Associate

A 24-year-old man, Usman Idris, has been hospitalised after a suspected political thug allegedly chopped off his wrist with a machete during a violent altercation in Bauchi metropolis.

The Bauchi State Police Command said it had arrested one suspect in connection with the incident, while the alleged attacker, identified as Mamman Gore, had fled and was being hunted by security operatives.

According to a police statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on October 14, 2026, behind Isiyaka Jibrin Quarters in the Bakin Kura area of Bauchi metropolis.

The statement said the violence erupted during an altercation between Lawi and Usman, both residents of the area.

It added that Gore, an associate of Lawi, allegedly appeared with a sharp machete and attacked Usman, severing his wrist and causing him to collapse and lose consciousness.

The victim was subsequently rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where he received emergency medical attention.

He remains hospitalised and is responding to treatment, the police said.

Following the attack, operatives of the ‘A’ Division Township Police Station arrested Lawi, who is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.

However, Gore, identified by the police as the principal suspect who allegedly inflicted the injury, escaped to an undisclosed location.

The command said it had intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect for prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned political violence and thuggery, warning that the command would not tolerate actions capable of threatening public peace and safety.

The police did not disclose the specific political affiliations of the individuals involved or establish whether the altercation was directly connected to a political party or campaign.
