Reality television star and chef, Uriel Oputa, has taken a firm stand against social media trolls who frequently criticise her British accent. The former Big Brother Naija housemate, who was born and raised in the United Kingdom, expressed her frustration over what she perceives as selective hearing from some of her Nigerian followers.
Uriel, who disclosed her irritation via a series of posts on her Instagram story, explained that it was hypocritical for people to claim they cannot understand her when they consume Western media without difficulty. She suggested that many of those complaining would suddenly have “perfect ears” if they were sitting in a British visa interview seeking to relocate abroad.

“Let me tell you something you struggle to hear my British accent, right? But I’m very sure if you were at a British visa interview because you wanted to relocate abroad, suddenly your ears would start working perfectly,” she wrote.

The fitness enthusiast did not stop there, further hitting back by highlighting her own difficulties with local dialects.
“Funny enough, half the time I struggle to understand the concussion pidgin some of you speak too. Abi when you’re watching TV, you don’t understand people on Love Island or Fast & Furious? My friend, please shift,” she added.
The confrontation escalated when a follower, identified as abaluxofficial, commented on her post saying, “Omooooo I de struggle to hear u ooooo.” Uriel wasted no time in shutting down the interaction with a simple, curt “bye,” by not wanting to continue the conversation.
