Social media activist Verydarkman has claimed that Afrobeats star Burna Boy once warned him that Nigerians could eventually turn against him despite his efforts to defend and advocate for them.
Verydarkman made the claim in a recent video shared on social media, where he reflected on the challenges of speaking up for Nigerians. According to him, Burna Boy cautioned him that the same people he was fighting for could “backstab” him if given the opportunity.
He said advocating for Nigerians can be exhausting because those being defended may eventually abandon or turn against the person standing up for them.
Verydarkman also referenced the backlash Burna Boy faced following an incident at his UK show, where the singer reportedly asked an individual to leave the venue. He criticised Nigerians who joined calls to cancel the singer over the incident, pointing to Burna Boy’s status as an international artiste.
In his words, “Burna Boy warned me, he said the Nigerians I’m fighting for will backstab me. They’ll put knife in your neck if they have the opportunity. Fighting for Nigerians is tiring. Same Nigerians that tried to cancel Burna of their own because of what happened in his UK show. Una international star. Just because him tell one person make him Comot from him show, Una join them everybody wan cancel am.”
The claim has since generated mixed reactions online, with some users agreeing with Verydarkman’s point about Nigerians turning against people who defend them, while others criticised both him and Burna Boy.
