Daniel Zhang, commonly known as Zhang Yong, is a Chinese technology executive. He is currently the CEO of Alibaba Group. Prior to becoming CEO, he was widely recognized as the CEO of Taobao and the president of an Alibaba-owned subsidiary called “Tmall.” Yong launched a popular yearly Chinese sales event, the Singles’ Day shopping holiday, while running Tmall, and achieved gross sales three times greater than Cyber Monday and Black Friday.

Yong was born in Shanghai, China, on January 11, 1972. He graduated in finance from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. After graduation, Yong worked for Barings Bank based in Britain. This happened a few months before getting insolvent due to dealer Nick Leeson. Between 1995 and 2002, Yong worked for the former “Big Five” accounting company owner “Arthur Andersen” that got collapsed due to the scandal of Enron.
Later in 2002, he got the opportunity to work for a leading firm, “Price Waterhouse Coopers,” as a senior manager for two years. Then, he worked at Shanda Interactive Entertainment as a chief financial officer. It was one of the leading developers of online games in China.
