Mobile police officer Abdulrahman Auwal was reportedly killed along Kwi-Beco Road between Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas of Plateau State
The family of a mobile police officer, Abdulrahman Auwal, reportedly killed along Kwi-Beco Road between Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas of Plateau State, on Monday, called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the officer’s death.
Mr Auwal was reportedly killed while returning from a community service. He was buried at Zaria Cemetery in Jos on Saturday.
His mother, Larai Musa, said she had accepted her son’s death as the will of Allah but wants the police to establish what happened.
“There are still unanswered questions surrounding the death of my son. He was reported to have been cut with a sharp object while on a motorcycle with an okada rider. My son was killed, and the okada rider is alive,” she said.
Ms Musa questioned the circumstances of the attack and urged the police to identify and question the commercial motorcycle rider.
“The okada rider who reported the death should be able to explain where he took him to, who stopped them and who attacked only the passenger,” she said.
The family urged the police to provide a clear account of the incident and establish the circumstances that led to the officer’s death.
It also expressed disappointment that, four days after the incident, no police officers or colleagues of the deceased had visited to offer their condolences.
The Plateau State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
Attempts to get a reaction from the command were unsuccessful, as the police spokesperson could not be reached immediately by phone.
