Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, is set to be inaugurated as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) tomorrow, Friday, August 7, 2026.
Ahead of the official ceremony, Fayose held a strategic meeting with the Minister of Power, Engr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, in Abuja, signaling early moves to align leadership priorities within the agency.
The inauguration is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Ministry of Power’s office in Maitama, Abuja.
Fayose’s appointment was earlier confirmed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who named him to lead the REA board as part of efforts to strengthen rural electrification across Nigeria.
According to details released by the Presidency, the board will include Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as members and non-executive directors. They will serve alongside the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three serving executive directors.
Speaking after his meeting with the minister, Fayose described the engagement as productive, noting that discussions focused on improving the agency’s performance and expanding electricity access to underserved communities.
“I met with the Minister of Power, Engr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, today, and we had fruitful discussions,” Fayose said.
His inauguration marks the beginning of a new leadership phase for the REA, with expectations high over the agency’s role in addressing Nigeria’s rural power deficit.
