The Federal Government (FG) has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks for Nigerian schools for the 2026–2028 academic session.
The Federal Ministry of Education announced the list in a statement issued by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, following the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise.
The approved list covers textbooks for Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS 1 and SSS 1, with each selected book assigned a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code.
According to the ministry, the code contains key details including the book’s title, author, publisher and year of publication, allowing approved textbooks to be identified and monitored more easily.
The ministry explained that the ranking exercise was conducted under the supervision of Education Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa and Minister of State for Education Suwaiba Said Ahmad, with the final list approved by Alausa.
It noted that introducing the tracking codes extended the time required to complete and verify the list but described the additional process as necessary to improve accountability and transparency in textbook selection, procurement and use.
The ranking exercise will continue in phases, with the second phase covering Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SSS 2.
The ministry urged publishers, schools, education authorities, procurement agencies and other stakeholders to use the approved list when selecting and purchasing textbooks for the affected classes.
It added that the exercise is aimed at ensuring pupils and teachers have access to quality, curriculum-aligned learning materials while improving transparency in textbook supply.
