The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a minor fire incident at the Idu Train Station in Abuja.
It, however, assured passengers that the development will not affect Abuja–Kaduna train services.
The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, in the low-voltage electrical room of the station.
The NRC Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying maintenance personnel promptly brought the fire under control.
According to him, a preliminary inspection showed that some electrical supply cables connected to the control panels were damaged in the incident.
He, however, clarified that the station’s alternative solar power system was not affected by the fire.
Unyimadu said power had been temporarily restored to the lifts and escalators, with five out of the six facilities currently operational.
“The incident has no effect on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service operations,” he said, assuring passengers that scheduled train services would continue as planned.
He added that the corporation’s technical team was conducting further assessment to determine the cause of the fault and permanently restore the affected installations.
The NRC spokesperson also said the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) had been informed to provide the necessary technical support and intervention.
