French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has asked ministers to extend targeted fuel support for sectors badly affected by rising fuel prices linked to the war with Iran.
Lecornu’s office announced the decision on Wednesday, saying the measures would be extended until the end of the year.
“The aim is to preserve economic activity, jobs and growth while giving companies visibility until the end of the year,” the Prime Minister’s office said.
The French Government had introduced targeted measures to cushion businesses and workers from the impact of higher fuel prices following disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
The latest extension is intended to provide continued support to sectors facing significant increases in fuel costs while maintaining economic activity through December.
France has faced growing pressure from higher energy and fuel prices since the war involving Iran disrupted energy markets and affected supplies through key shipping routes.
The government has previously ruled out broad fuel tax cuts, opting instead for targeted assistance to affected sectors and consumers.
