Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has expressed concern over Nigeria’s security situation, warning that banditry appears to be becoming increasingly entrenched across parts of the country.
In a statement shared on social media, Dalung described the situation as “heartbreaking and unbelievable,” citing reports and viral videos showing heavily armed bandits moving openly in large numbers on motorcycles along highways.
According to him, the growing visibility of armed criminal groups raises serious questions about the country’s security challenges and the safety of ordinary citizens.
Dalung clarified that his comments were not directed at security personnel actively risking their lives to combat criminal elements, but rather at what he described as the apparent normalization of banditry and insecurity in some parts of the nation.
“The question now is: what is left for the ordinary citizen?” he asked, reflecting concerns over public safety and confidence in security efforts.
