Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has stressed the importance of good governance, saying the welfare and progress of the people should remain the priority of any government.
Otti made the statement while speaking about his administration and the kind of leadership he hopes to leave behind in the state.
According to the governor, concerns that Abia could return to its past political situation are unfounded, assuring that his administration is focused on building a better future for the state.
“The most important thing you can give your people is good governance. If you’re afraid we will go back to Egypt, it will never happen. By the time I’m done, the person who succeeds me will be better than me. I don’t tolerate godfatherism; I don’t want to be a godfather.”
Otti also emphasized that he does not intend to establish a political structure that would make him a godfather after leaving office.
He said his priority is to provide good leadership and create an environment where whoever succeeds him can build on the progress made by his administration.
