I Prefer Death To Becoming A Burden On My Family—Pete Edochie

Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, has said he would rather die when his time comes than become a burden to his family or those around him.

Edochie made the remark while visiting ailing Ghanaian actor Emmanuel Armah in Accra, Ghana, on Thursday, where he also disclosed that he is currently struggling to walk and has been experiencing swelling in parts of his body.

Armah, has reportedly been battling an illness for nearly 11 years.

In a video of the emotional visit circulating online, Edochie said he remained hopeful of recovering despite his current physical difficulties.

“Sitting down here, I’m not very well myself. Walking is a problem for me now, but I still have hope that I will recover myself.

“Sometimes I get up, and parts of my body are swollen. After some time, it goes down again. Like my hand is swollen now,” he said.

Speaking about his fears over his condition, the veteran actor said he had been praying that God would take his life when his time came rather than leave him dependent on others.

“I just keep asking God, You are the author of life. Whenever you feel it’s time for me to go, just take me, don’t let me bother the people who are around me. Just take me” he said.

Armah’s wife, Stella Amina, said his health challenges began while he was working in the United States.

According to GhanaWeb, she said he had high blood pressure without knowing it and later developed elevated cholesterol levels.

Armah is currently undergoing physiotherapy and receiving daily massages as part of his treatment.

Offering words of encouragement to Armah, Edochie said, “It is my belief that you will recover one day.”
