FIFA President Gianni Infantino has responded to critics following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, defending the organisation’s handling of the tournament and addressing the controversy surrounding Iran’s participation.
In a statement posted on Sky Sports official X page, Infantino dismissed criticism directed at FIFA and those involved in staging the tournament, insisting the governing body remained focused on delivering a successful competition.
“To those behind their pens and papers, behind their screens spreading hate and false rumours, I want to say that while you are sitting behind, we at FIFA are on the front lines organising, working hard, and delivering the best show in the World,” Infantino said.

The FIFA president’s remarks come after weeks of debate over several issues during the tournament, including Iran’s participation amid geopolitical tensions and allegations surrounding officiating.
TVC News reported that Infantino also rejected claims that FIFA favoured certain teams or that referees were biased during the competition, maintaining that the integrity of the tournament was upheld throughout.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup concluded with Spain lifting the trophy after edging Argentina 1-0 in the final.
