Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has paid an emotional tribute to his late friend and colleague, Olu Jacobs, reflecting on their long-standing friendship, the actor’s character and the painful reality of losing someone close.
Edochie’s tribute was featured in a video shared by radio presenter Nani Boi on Thursday, September 24, where the veteran actor spoke directly to his late colleague.
Speaking about the inevitability of death, Edochie acknowledged that there is little anyone can do when a person’s time on earth comes to an end.
“If God says the time allotted to you on earth is finished. There’s absolutely nothing you can do about it,” Edochie said.
The veteran actor also praised Olu Jacobs for the courage and resilience he displayed during the difficult period towards the end of his life.
Addressing his late friend, Edochie said, “Olu, my brother, you fought like a man. You fought like the soldier I’ve always known you to be. Rest in peace, my brother.”
While mourning his colleague, Edochie also remembered the lighter side of Olu Jacobs, describing him as a peaceful and humorous person who had a unique way of making an impression on those around him.
He recalled the special bond they shared, revealing that he, Olu Jacobs and his wife, actress Joke Silva, had a private joke that was known only to the three of them.
Edochie also acknowledged Joke Silva’s dedication to her husband throughout his health struggles, praising her for the support she gave him.
“Joke, you did your best. And while we must mourn that Olu has gone, we should also be glad and celebrate Olu’s life,” he said.
Concluding his tribute, Edochie expressed the hope that one of Olu Jacobs’ children would eventually follow in their father’s footsteps by pursuing acting and helping to preserve his legacy.
He also reflected on the possibility of reuniting with loved ones after death, saying, “If it is true that people recognise one another after they have gone, then there’s a possibility that we’ll meet again.”
