Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has argued that Peter Obi does not have genuine grassroots support.
Speaking about Obi’s 2023 presidential performance, Bwala claimed that the votes secured by the former Anambra State governor were not necessarily a reflection of broad personal support.
“Peter Obi does not have grassroot support. Peter Obi did not get those votes because of Peter Obi. The Christians were afraid because of what peddled around that time,” Bwala said.
His comments come against the backdrop of the 2023 presidential election, in which Obi, who contested on the Labour Party platform, officially received 6,101,533 votes, finishing third behind Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar.
Bwala has previously made a similar argument, saying Obi’s support was driven largely by social media activity and his outreach to Christian groups rather than an “organic” grassroots political structure.
His latest remarks have triggered reactions online, with some users challenging his assessment and pointing to Obi’s 2023 vote total, while others questioned why political figures continue to focus heavily on the former governor.
