Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said opposition politicians are free to campaign in the state, insisting that his administration would not prevent political activities by rival parties.
Otti said it was wrong for a sitting government to stop opposition parties from campaigning in its state, adding that Abia was “above that league.”
“It is very wrong for a sitting government to stop the opposition from campaigning in your state. Here in Abia State, we are above that league. Everyone is free to come and campaign,” he said.
The governor also addressed speculation about his political future, declaring that he would retire after completing his tenure.
“After I’m done as governor, I will retire. I will never run for any other position, including the presidency,” Otti said.
His comments have generated reactions online, with some users praising the position on political openness while others questioned whether he would maintain the decision to retire from politics in the future.
