Lagos Man Alleges Festac Police Officers Brutalised Him After Refusing to Follow Them to Station

A Lagos resident has accused officers attached to the Festac Police Division of assaulting him after they allegedly stopped him for a routine search and attempted to force him into an unregistered vehicle.

Sharing his account of the incident, the man claimed the officers searched his bag but found nothing incriminating. Despite that, he said they ordered him to accompany them to the police station.

“They stopped me and said they wanted to search my bag.”

According to him, he refused to comply because he had committed no offence and became suspicious after noticing the officers were not properly dressed in police uniforms and had arrived in an unregistered bus.

“After searching it and finding nothing, they told me to follow them to the station. I refused because I had done nothing wrong.”

He further alleged that the situation quickly turned violent when the officers allegedly tried to force him into their vehicle.

“They were also not properly dressed as Police Officers, and the bus they arrived in was unregistered.”

Describing the alleged assault, the man claimed one of the officers struck him with a firearm before he was repeatedly beaten.

“They then dragged me, tried to force me into the bus, and one of them struck me on the head with a gun and started hitting me.”

The allegations have sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for an investigation into the incident and demanding accountability from the Nigeria Police Force.
