Losing NDC Ticket Not End Of My Political Journey – Emeka Ike

The Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike, has said his inability to secure the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat will not end his interest in public service.

Speaking in an interview with THE WHISTLER, Ike said he is open to other opportunities to serve Nigerians.

“My interest in public service goes beyond one party primary or one court case. I was interested in representing the people of AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency because I believe public office should be about service, accountability and the welfare of the people,” he said.

Although he did not secure the party ticket, the actor said the experience had not discouraged him from contributing to society.

He added that he would continue to assess the political environment, engage with people and explore lawful opportunities to serve.

“I would not say that this judgment determines my political future. The court case concerned privacy and data protection; my political aspirations concern public service. They are separate matters,” he said.

Ike further said he remained committed to responsible political participation and the protection of the rights of ordinary Nigerians, adding that his future decisions would be guided by service rather than personal bitterness.

“Whatever direction I take next, I want it to be guided by service rather than personal bitterness,” he said.

The veteran actor had recently sued Mr Lere Olayinka, an aide to the FCT Minister, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ike had approached the court over the alleged publication of his voter registration details on social media by Olayinka without his consent.

He argued that the publication violated his fundamental right to privacy and the protection of personal data, as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution and the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

He sought N10bn in aggravated and general damages against the respondents, as well as an order directing Olayinka to remove the publication from his X account and tender a written apology.

However, Justice Salim Ibrahim of the Federal High Court, in his judgment on October 28, 2026, upheld the preliminary objections raised by the respondents, ruling that the suit was incompetent and improperly constituted.

The court also dismissed the substantive suit on the grounds of lack of proof.

Ike had aspired to contest the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the NDC but lost the party’s primary.
