Manchester City could soon be forced into the transfer market for a new goalkeeper following James Trafford’s expected departure.
The England shot-stopper is closing in on a move to Leeds United in a deal worth an initial £40 million, with a further £5 million in potential add-ons, prompting City to begin searching for a replacement.
Now, it appears the Premier League champions have identified an experienced international to fill the void.
City Want Rulli to Replace Trafford
According to ESPN, Manchester City are working on a deal to sign Marseille goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli as Trafford edges closer to his switch to Leeds.
The 34-year-old Argentina international has emerged as City’s preferred option and would arrive to provide competition for first-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Rulli has spent the last two seasons with Marseille after previous spells at Villarreal and Ajax, bringing a wealth of top-level experience to the table.
The veteran has earned eight senior caps for Argentina and was also part of the squad that reached the 2026 World Cup final, further enhancing his reputation on the international stage.
With Trafford’s exit now appearing inevitable, City are pushing ahead with plans to ensure they have another experienced goalkeeper in place before the new campaign begins.
