Tottenham still “want to” complete the signing of Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo this summer, and are looking to reach an “agreement” sooner rather than later.
The Dutchman had a season to forget in 2025/26, like so many Reds players, and there have been rumours of a move away from Anfield ahead of the new campaign.
Gakpo did show his quality for the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup, however, and Liverpool will know that selling Gakpo would be a potential risk.
The 27-year-old has been backed to join Andy Robertson at Spurs this summer, and writing on X, a respected source has provided new update on Saturday morning: “As exclusively revealed by us, Spurs want to sign Cody Gakpo and also Savinho at the same time. Spurs making moves.”
In a separate post on Saturday, they also said: “The media will today start reporting our Cody Gakpo exclusive from 20th June. Liverpool & Spurs are trying to come to an agreement.”
The right time for Liverpool to sell Cody Gakpo?
Liverpool have a big decision to make with Gakpo, with clear pros and cons on show with him, in terms of his quality but also being an expendable figure.
With Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz already strong left-sided options, and Bradley Barcola continually linked with a switch to Anfield, there should be enough depth on the left wing to get by without him.
That said, Gakpo has still been a real asset for Liverpool since he arrived from PSV Eindhoven in 2023, scoring 50 goals, with Daniel Sturridge hailing him during the World Cup:
“Gakpo is different for Netherlands man! Way more confident and decisive with his decisions, dribbling and shot selection. Bagged 2 and an assist tonight. Love to see it.”
Ultimately, if a big offer arrives for Gakpo from Spurs, or another club for that matter, it is easy to see Liverpool accepting it, but keeping him around would be no bad thing.
At 27, he is running out of time to cost his premium amount, which is why the Reds will be monitoring his situation, and Spurs would be a good fit for him if he departs, especially as he would link up with Robertson once more.
