Tottenham Hotspur have rounded up their pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea and here are our player ratings.
Tottenham player ratings vs Chelsea
Antonin Kinsky – While there was little he could do about Chelsea’s equaliser in the first half, the Czech international showed his quality in the second forty-five minutes, denying Estevao twice with two brilliant point-blank stops. 8.
Archie Gray – Started at right-back, tasked with marking Jamie Gittens. He could have closed down the cross from the Chelsea winger sooner before it reached the back post. In the second half he moved into midfield, helping protect the backline while keeping the ball moving. 6.
Jan Paul van Hecke – The Dutchman could only feature for forty-five minutes in what was his first Tottenham appearance. He was aggressive throughout, not afraid to push high up the pitch and get stuck into challenges. 6.

Ben Davies – The experienced centre-back picked up where he left off in the first half, making a good tackle to put Joao Pedro off when the Brazilian was through on goal. In the second half, Davies was forced into more crucial interventions, blocking Cole Palmer’s shot from outside the box and making other important interceptions as Spurs went down to ten men. 8.
Andy Robertson – Should have done better in the first half when Gittens crossed to the back post. He switched off, reacting too slowly in a lapse that Estevao capitalised on. In the second half, another moment of madness almost followed as he attempted a risky chest-back inside the box, one Joao Pedro pounced on before Kinsky intervened. There were fewer forward forays across both halves. 5.
Sandro Tonali – Announced himself in style with a well-taken goal in the first half, striking from outside the box, although Levi Colwill deflected it. In the second half, he had an almost identical chance after a rare Spurs burst, but his effort did not trouble the Chelsea goalkeeper. 7.
MORE SPURS STORIES
Lucas Bergvall – The midfielder managed a solid seventy-two minutes. In the first half he was full of running, helping Spurs press Chelsea high. In the second half he saw less of the ball as Tottenham were forced to be more defensive. 7.
Conor Gallagher – Full of energy and running in the first half, helping press and close down Chelsea. In the second half, he was substituted early following Kevin Danso’s red card as Roberto De Zerbi reshaped his side. 6.
Manor Solomon – Grabbed the assist for Tonali’s opener, picking out the Italian outside the box. Aside from that, he saw little of the ball in the first half, and even less in the second as Spurs were forced to defend with ten men. He was eventually taken off. 5.
Dominic Solanke – Barely involved in the first half and did not have a sight of goal. Substituted at half-time. 5.
Mathys Tel – Had a few sights of goal in the first half, striking after an Essugo loose ball but barely troubling the Chelsea goalkeeper. He then had another chance after a lovely run beating Essugo, but his effort was saved. In the second half, chances were scarce with Spurs down to ten men, although he proved an outlet, often carrying the ball up the pitch. 5.
Substitutes
Kevin Danso – The Austrian came on for his first pre-season game after his World Cup campaign earlier in the summer. However, it was an outing to forget as he was sent off after four minutes following a lapse in concentration when receiving a pass from Gray. 3.
Richarlison – Replaced Solanke and went straight into the striker role but, like his team-mate, did not have any clear-cut chances. He helped defensively after Spurs went down to ten men. Eventually got rewarded for his hard work off the ball as Donley shot off the upright fell to him in the box and he scored the tap in. 8.
Malachi Hardy – Replaced Gallagher and went straight to the Tottenham backline. He managed a block from a Chelsea cross as Spurs defended with ten men. 7.
Mikey Moore – Came on for Solomon but did not make any attacking contributions with Spurs seeing little of the ball. 6.
Tye Hall – Replaced Bergvall and moved to right-back, with Gray shifting into midfield. Chelsea barely threatened from that side, leaving Hall with little defensive work. 6.
Rio Kyerematen – Replaced Robertson and went straight to left-back, bringing energy by overlapping and looking to join attacks. He came close to giving Tottenham the lead after driving forward from deep and striking from outside the box, his effort hitting the woodwork. He did look to have picked up a knock late on after his burst forward. 6.
Luca Williams-Barnett – Came on for Tel and moved to the left but did not have any notable impact. 6.
Kota Takai – Replaced Davies and slotted in at centre-back. N/A.
Tyler Tingey – Came on for Kyerematen after he was forced off. N/A.
Jamie Donley – Came on for Tonali and added energy and power to Spurs’ midfield. It was his shot late on that hit the upright before Richarlison slotted into an empty net. 7.
