NDC alleges discrimination against opposition by hoteliers, denial of meeting venues in Abuja

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of attempting to frustrate opposition parties by allegedly pressuring hotels in Abuja to deny them access to their facilities.

The party alleged that it had become a target of discrimination by some members of the hospitality industry in the Federal Capital Territory, following what it described as repeated attempts to prevent it from holding meetings and political events.

In a statement on Thursday, November 5, 2026, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said Rockview Hotel and BON Hotel, Wuse, Abuja, had denied it access to their facilities despite meeting the required conditions.

“The NDC has not just been a target of violent attacks by agents of the ruling and ruinous APC, it has become a soft target of discrimination by hoteliers and the hospitality industry in Abuja,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the first incident occurred in June 2026, when the hotel allegedly withdrew its approval for the party’s second National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting.

The NDC said the hotel recently rejected another request to use its facilities for a meeting, claiming that the decision was based on an “order from above.”

It also accused BON Hotel, Wuse, Abuja, of refusing to allow the party to use its facilities despite fulfilling all the conditions stipulated by the hotel.

The party further alleged that the unveiling of its National Campaign Council, NCC, was almost disrupted after its host venue suddenly demanded a refund of the payment made for the facility.

The statement said the hotel informed the party that it was no longer interested in making its facilities available, allegedly due to threats and directives from unnamed persons.

“At the last minute, our host called the party to refund the payment made, saying they were no longer interested in making their facilities available, perhaps based on threats and orders from above,” it stated.

However, the NDC said its refusal to accept the decision compelled the hotel to allow it to use the facility for the event.

Describing the alleged incidents as undemocratic, the party urged the APC to allow opposition parties to campaign freely without interference.

“This is not democracy. The APC should allow all parties to campaign without let or hindrance, and give Nigerians the opportunity to make their choice on who governs them,” the statement added.

The NDC also called on Nigerians and supporters of democracy to condemn the alleged actions of the two hotels.

“In addition, we implore all well-meaning Nigerians and lovers of democracy to call out Rockview and BON Hotel for their anti-people and anti-democratic actions,” the party said.
