Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has said Nigerians will better appreciate and fully enjoy the benefits of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope reforms if the President is re-elected in 2027.
He disclosed this in a statement signed by Adeshina Oyetayo, his Special Adviser on Research, Media and Documentation.
The longest-serving Lagos lawmaker congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the Independence anniversary and especially commended their love and support for the President.
He also extended his congratulations and gratitude to the industrious residents of Lagos State, and specifically, his constituents in Agege.
The Speaker’s advocacy is predicated on the theme of this year’s anniversary; “From Reforms to Stability: Consolidating Nigeria’s Renewed Hope for Shared Prosperity,” which he said is not just political sloganeering but an apt description of what Nigerians need to do to enjoy the gains of the painful reforms of the past years.
“Every Independence Day anniversary reminds us about our trajectory as a nation, and a time to ask ourselves salient questions about what we want as a nation; whether we want to continue living in delusion or we want to be realistic.
“President Tinubu has laid a firm foundation for the prosperity of Nigeria with the reforms. Stability is now being entrenched. For the first time in 18 years, Nigeria’s gross external foreign exchange reserves stood at $55.25 billion by the end of September 2026. We have seen increased revenues, investment inflows and growth figures that are clear signs of deliberate repairs.
“The next task is not to draw us back, but to finish the work started in 2023, complete those major road projects, and the rails and ports, enhance local refining capacity and energy transition; strengthen agriculture and human capital; and ensure that fiscal recovery reaches markets, classrooms, and homes.
“That is why the anniversary theme matters. We should understand that reforms without consolidation are like dropping out of a sprint after the 50m mark without any significant injury. Our story will not be like that, all things being equal.”
Continuing, Speaker Obasa said the 2027 election is therefore a referendum on whether Nigerians want the Tinubu administration to consolidate on what it has started or be reversed by self-seeking political buccaneers.
In conclusion, Speaker Obasa said that a second term would give the Renewed Hope Agenda the time required to stabilise the country.
He also promised that the Lagos State House of Assembly will continue to work with the Federal Government because Lagos, as Nigeria’s commercial centre, has long understood that progress is secured by consistency of purpose.
