The Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), has held special Jumma’at and interdenominational church services in Gusau, Zamfara State, as part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
The religious events, held on June 26 and June 28, brought together officers, soldiers, veterans, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), and other guests to offer prayers in thanksgiving for the Nigerian Army’s 163 years of service to the nation.
During the Jumma’at prayer, the Theatre Commander, Major General WB Idris, delivered the goodwill message of the Chief of Army Staff, congratulating officers, soldiers and veterans on the Army’s anniversary.
He described the occasion as an opportunity to thank God for His faithfulness, honour fallen heroes and recommit to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and citizens.
The message commended the courage, sacrifice and professionalism of troops serving across various operational theatres despite ongoing security challenges.
Speaking on the NADCEL 2026 theme, “Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army,” the Chief of Army Staff called for renewed dedication to the Army’s constitutional responsibilities and core values of loyalty, discipline, integrity, selfless service and professionalism.
He also acknowledged the Federal Government’s support in enhancing the operational capabilities and welfare of the Nigerian Army, while reaffirming the service’s commitment to combating terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats.
At the interdenominational church service, the Theatre Commander was represented by the Chief of Staff, OPFY, Brigadier General OA Obochi, who conveyed the Chief of Army Staff’s message to Christian faithful.
The message highlighted the Army’s commitment to leadership, professionalism, operational effectiveness and troop welfare through the “Soldier First” initiative, which focuses on improved accommodation, healthcare, training, education and family support for personnel.
The Chief of Army Staff also paid tribute to fallen heroes, wounded personnel, veterans and the families of serving soldiers for their sacrifices and contributions to national security.
The prayer services formed part of nationwide activities commemorating NADCEL 2026 and underscored the Nigerian Army’s commitment to service, unity and national development.
The Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma reaffirmed its determination to protect the nation while strengthening relationships with communities across its area of operation.
