The wife of a serving police officer in Gombe State has been killed after armed assailants invaded her home in the early hours of Saturday and allegedly stabbed her while attempting to steal her mobile phone.
The victim, Mrs Aishatu Salisu, was attacked at about 4:35am at Wuro Shie Quarters, Gombe, where she lived with her husband, Inspector Salisu Waziri, who is attached to the Safer Highway Patrol.
The attackers, armed with machetes and cutlasses, reportedly stormed the residence and attempted to dispossess Aishatu of her mobile phone.
However, the woman raised an alarm during the attack, prompting one of the assailants to stab her with a machete before the attackers fled, leaving the handset behind.
Aishatu was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, by police officers who responded to the incident, but she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The tragic incident has since led to the arrest of two residents of the area identified as 20-year-old Muhammad Bashir Sale, alias “Full,” and 18-year-old Musa Sale Ahmad, alias “Abba.”
The Gombe State Police Command in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi said the suspects were arrested on Saturday following an investigation into the killing.
According to the command, the suspects confessed during preliminary investigation to their alleged involvement in the crime. A sharp knife was also recovered as an exhibit.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the incident and directed that anyone found culpable be brought to justice.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the nearest police formation.
