The Nigeria Police Force Trust Fund has empowered 100 wives of junior police officers in Delta State with vocational skills and start-up equipment to boost their economic independence and improve the welfare of police families.
The four-day empowerment programme, organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, trained 79 beneficiaries in tailoring and 21 in hairdressing.
At the end of the training, each participant received a starter pack in her chosen trade to enable her establish a business and generate sustainable income.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr. Yemi Oyeniyi, at the closing ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, commended the beneficiaries for their commitment throughout the training.
He urged them to make productive use of the skills acquired by building successful businesses and contributing to the welfare of their families.
Adejobi also encouraged the women to continue supporting their husbands, noting that police officers face enormous responsibilities in safeguarding lives and property across the country.
Speaking at the event, the Team Lead of the Nigeria Police Force Trust Fund, Mr. Charles Omorogiuwa, described the initiative as part of the Trust Fund’s commitment to improving the welfare of police families through sustainable empowerment programmes.
According to him, the project was executed under the leadership of the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Force Trust Fund, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu.
He urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity by becoming self-reliant and establishing thriving businesses.
The President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association in Delta State, Mrs. Rosemary Adejo, also commended the Trust Fund for the initiative, urging the participants to remain committed to their chosen vocations.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Oyeniyi, lauded the Nigeria Police Force Trust Fund for investing in the welfare of police families.
He said strengthening the economic capacity of officers’ families would complement ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare and morale of police personnel while promoting stable and resilient homes for officers serving the country.
The empowerment programme forms part of the Nigeria Police Force Trust Fund’s broader intervention aimed at supporting the socio-economic well-being of police personnel and their families through skills development and entrepreneurship.
