Fresh and disturbing details have emerged in the murder of former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, after police revealed that one of the arrested suspects allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the prime suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip—who reportedly once worked as Oyesiku’s security guard—was arrested alongside two alleged accomplices, Sobu Obafunsho and Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, over the June 21 attack at the broadcaster’s residence in Owode-Egba, Ogun State.
Speaking to journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed that investigators relied on advanced technology, intelligence gathering, and forensic analysis to unravel the case.
Police said officers responding to the scene discovered signs of forced entry, while the victim’s Lexus RX 330 SUV had vanished from the compound, raising immediate suspicions of robbery and homicide. Watch video
A major breakthrough came after detectives tracked and recovered the stolen vehicle on June 22. Although the suspects allegedly removed the ignition key and detached the registration plates in an attempt to conceal the vehicle’s identity, officers reportedly found the original number plate hidden beneath one of the seats, helping them confirm it belonged to the late broadcaster.
Investigators also recovered a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the crime scene. According to the police, forensic examination of the note provided vital clues that helped detectives identify and arrest the suspects.
During questioning, the prime suspect allegedly admitted participating in the attack and reportedly claimed that the murder was carried out to “teach her a lesson.”
Police further alleged that the gang first subdued security guard Pelumi Adetayo and forced him to grant them access into the residence before attacking Oyesiku. Both victims were allegedly killed before the suspects fled with the broadcaster’s Lexus SUV, which was later recovered during an intelligence-led operation in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
