African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has been taken to the hospital after an alleged att@ck by armed men at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The incident reportedly left his brother and some members of his team inj¥red, with the politician also sustaining injuries during the confrontation.
Sowore had earlier raised the alarm in a post on his X account, claiming that armed thugs had k!dnapped him and that his whereabouts were unknown.
He subsequently shared photographs of himself and one of his aides receiving medical attention at a hospital, while accusing the Department of State Services (DSS) of providing the attackers with their exact location.
According to him, the incident happened shortly after he completed an interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti. He also alleged that the attackers came from the Ekiti State Government House and received support from the DSS.
However, the Ekiti State Police Command dismissed reports that Sowore was k!dnapped, explaining that officers responded to a distress call following an altercation between him and some individuals at a restaurant in the Dalimore area.
The police spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, said officers rescued him and took him to the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment for a minor injury. The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, also ordered an investigation into the incident.
Sowore subsequently faulted the police account, insisting that there was no altercation and that he and his team were violently att@cked. He also accused the command of downplaying the extent of their injuries.
