Team Nigeria will resume their medal hunt at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Wednesday, with athletes competing across athletics, weightlifting, boxing, swimming and para athletics as the country seeks to strengthen its position on the medal table.
Nigeria currently sit fifth on the medal table with six gold, four silver and two bronze medals, making the country the highest-ranked African nation at the Games.
The day’s action begins in the morning with Clinton Opute competing in the men’s 200m freestyle heats at 10:42am, while Obi Jennifer Chukwuka will line up in the women’s 200m at 10:48am.
Olayinka Olajide follows in the women’s 200m at 10:54am, before Chukwuebuka Enyekwechi takes centre stage in the men’s shot put qualification at 11:05am.
Nigeria’s men’s 200m campaign will then continue with Alaba Akintola competing at 11:38am, followed by Udodi Onwuzurike at 11:55am.
The evening session presents some of Nigeria’s biggest medal opportunities of the day.

At 6:30pm, Mary Osijo will contest the women’s 86kg weightlifting final, with Nigeria looking to add to its impressive medal haul in the sport.
There will also be major interest in para athletics, where Goodness Nwachukwu and Destiny Agbo will compete in the women’s discus throw F42-44/F61-64 final at 7:00pm.
At the same time, Blessing Orakwe will be in the ring for her women’s 70kg boxing quarter-final, with victory taking her another step closer to a medal.
The athletics programme continues with Ezekiel Nathaniel in the men’s 400m hurdles at 7:41pm, before Jessica Orji contests the women’s shot put final at 8:01pm.
Nigeria’s Day Six programme concludes at 9:12pm, when Ifeanyi Christian competes in the men’s T47 100m final.
With Nigeria sitting fifth on the standings after five days of competition, Wednesday provides another opportunity for the contingent to increase its medal tally and strengthen its position among the leading nations in Glasgow.
