Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled multiple kidnap attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr Aminu Yusuf, and 22 other civilians.
The military said the operations were carried out on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, following distress calls over terrorist activities in different communities across Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of JTF North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the first incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday around Tsohon-Tasha Street, Kaura Namoda.
Danja said terrorists had invaded the residence of the polytechnic rector, killing his private security guard and injuring another resident before attempting to abduct Yusuf and members of his family.

He said troops responded swiftly to the distress call and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee the area and abandon their victims.
“The Rector and his family were rescued unharmed,” the statement said.
In a separate operation the same day, troops conducting a night patrol received another distress call from residents of Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village over an ongoing attempt by terrorists to abduct civilians.
Danja said that despite the difficult terrain which slowed the troops’ initial movement, the soldiers were able to close in on the fleeing terrorists and engage them, successfully foiling the abduction attempt.
He added that troops simultaneously engaged another group of terrorists operating in the same community and attempting to abduct a prominent businessman, identified as Alhaji Azaria.
“Prompt intervention forced the terrorists to flee and abandon their mission,” he said.
According to the military, Azaria and 21 other civilians who had been abducted from neighbouring houses were subsequently rescued by the troops.
The operation also led to the arrest of a suspected terrorist informant, identified as 45-year-old Falalu Yusuf, who the military said was believed to have collaborated with the terrorists.
Danja said Yusuf had been handed over to the relevant authorities for investigation and further necessary action.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and professionalism, while assuring residents of Zamfara and the wider North-West region of its continued commitment to restoring peace and security.
The latest operations come amid sustained military efforts to counter terrorist and bandit activities and protect communities across the North-West.
