Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has defended President Bola Tinubu’s reforms, comparing Nigeria’s current situation to an aircraft that is still taking off.
Speaking while praising the President’s administration, Okpebholo said the reforms were difficult but necessary before the country could reach what he described as “cruising level.”
“What we are seeing in Nigeria today is reform, and it’s a very difficult one. When an aircraft is taking off, do you see the air hostess serving food? They will never do that until the seatbelt sign is turned off, meaning the aircraft has reached cruising level. Soon, Nigeria will be at cruising level,” he said.
Okpebholo also reiterated his promise to deliver 2.5 million votes for Tinubu from Edo State in the 2027 presidential election. The governor has previously linked the target to projects being carried out by his administration and support for Tinubu’s government.
His comments have sparked reactions online, with some Nigerians questioning the analogy and arguing that the country’s economic difficulties should not be compared to the discomfort of a flight during takeoff.
Others criticised the governor’s continued support for Tinubu, while some questioned the feasibility of his 2.5 million-vote pledge.
