Nigerian singer Mavo has apologised after some of his old social media posts, including controversial comments about Afrobeats superstar Davido, resurfaced online.
The posts, which date back to 2023, contained derogatory remarks about Davido, including a false claim that the singer had attempted to harm his newborn child.
Following the renewed attention to the posts, Mavo took to X on Friday, September 25, to address his past comments and apologise to those who may have been affected by them.
Reflecting on his time at university, the singer revealed that he was once actively involved in criticising celebrities and discussing entertainment-related issues on social media.
According to Mavo, he eventually realised that many celebrities were largely unaffected by the criticism directed at them on Twitter. This prompted him to step away from that space and focus more on his music career.
However, looking back, Mavo acknowledged that some of his comments had negatively affected people.
He also noted that meeting some of the celebrities he had previously criticised changed his perception of them. The singer said he discovered that many of them were “amazing people”, leading him to recognise that some of his earlier judgments were based on misjudgment.
Mavo subsequently expressed regret over his past conduct and apologised to those who were hurt by his comments.
“My criticism sadly unfortunately & unintentionally hurt quite a number of people & I’m honestly sorry,” he wrote.
Describing his earlier actions as “misjudgment”, Mavo ended his message with a call for people to embrace love, saying, “let love lead.”
