Former US President Barack Obama has sparked debate after imagining what the world might look like if women were placed in charge of every government for two years.
Obama made the comment during a conversation with historian Doris Kearns Goodwin at Salem State University, where he also discussed the importance of giving younger generations opportunities to lead.
“Even when I was President, I sometimes fantasized about if you put women in charge of every government for like two years, and then just kind of saw, ‘All right, how are things going?’” he said.
Obama said he did not expect such a scenario to produce a perfect world but believed there would be improvements.
“I have a strong belief that things wouldn’t be perfect, but they’d be better. I’m confident about that. I really do,” he added.
The former President’s remarks have generated mixed reactions online, with some people agreeing with his view while others questioned whether leadership outcomes could be tied to gender alone.
