Popular Anambra State native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, better known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, has reportedly regained his freedom after Governor Chukwuma Soludo granted him a pardon.
Akwa Okuko was sentenced to 11 months in prison by an Awka High Court in February 2026 after pleading guilty to multiple charges linked to “Oke Ite” and other related offences.
The court had also ordered the demolition of his shrine in Oba and directed him to publicly renounce the practice after his release.
Before his conviction, Soludo had said that he could consider granting Akwa Okuko a pardon after the court process was concluded. The governor had made the statement in October 2025 while responding to pleas from youths in Oba for the native doctor’s release.
News of Akwa Okuko’s reported release has now triggered reactions on social media, with some Nigerians joking about his return and others linking the development to Soludo’s administration.
