The management of Sun Newspaper has announced the appointment of Fred Itua, as the new Group Politics Editor of the paper, placing him in charge of its political coverage across print and digital platforms.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, positions the seasoned journalist to coordinate reporting on national politics for the national daily.
Itua, a long-standing political correspondent, has covered the National Assembly and federal politics for years, and has successfully built an enviable profile within the media and political circles.
While announcing the appointment, the management of The Sun said Itua’s experience made him a suitable fit for the editorial role.
According to The Sun, “Fred Itua is not merely a journalist; he is an institution in himself. His appointment as Group Politics Editor is a reflection of our deep commitment to rigorous, balanced, and consequential political journalism at a time when the nation needs it most.”
As Group Politics Editor, Itua is expected to lead the paper’s political desk, oversee reporting teams and correspondents, and help shape The Sun’s coverage of elections, policy debates and developments within the major political parties.
He will also contribute to the newspaper’s digital strategy, working with its online team to expand political content across its website and social media pages.
Responding to the announcement, Itua expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him.
