A woman has sparked a conversation online after suggesting that some Nigerian women living in the United Kingdom may be contributing to their own difficulties in finding husbands because of their expectations when going on dates.
In a statement making the rounds on social media, the woman argued that some Nigerian women complain about Nigerian men in the UK not wanting to marry them, yet their behaviour and demands during dates could be part of the problem.
According to her, some women expect men to take them to expensive restaurants they cannot comfortably afford themselves, despite earning salaries similar to those of the men they are dating.
She said, “Nigerian women in the UK complain that Nigerian men aren’t marrying them, but their attitude on dates is part of the problem. You will ask the men to take you to fancy restaurants where you yourself can’t afford to take yourself to, meanwhile you know you’re earning the same salary.”
Her comments have drawn attention to conversations about dating expectations, financial responsibility and the pressure some people face when searching for serious relationships abroad.
