Trump Announces Immediate Energy Ceasefire Between Russia, Ukraine

United States President Donald Trump has announced an immediate energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, saying both countries have agreed to stop attacks on energy infrastructure.

Trump made the announcement in a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, declaring that the agreement was effective immediately.

“Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” he wrote.

However, neither Kyiv nor Moscow had publicly confirmed the agreement at the time of reporting, and Trump did not provide details of its terms or how compliance would be monitored, Reuters reported.

The announcement comes as both countries continue to target energy infrastructure during the war, with Ukrainian forces striking Russian oil refineries and Russian forces attacking Ukraine’s energy facilities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that Kyiv was prepared to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries if Moscow stopped striking Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Energy infrastructure has been a major target in the conflict, with attacks affecting electricity supplies, fuel production and other essential services.

A halt to such strikes could reduce damage to critical infrastructure on both sides, although the scope of the announced arrangement remains unclear.

Trump’s announcement follows his recent discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, including a phone call on Friday that focused largely on efforts to end the war.
