The United States Embassy in Addis Ababa has warned of possible long-range attacks targeting Ethiopian military installations, advising American citizens to exercise caution.
In a security alert issued Wednesday, the embassy said it was aware of reports of possible long-range attacks directed at Ethiopian military installations on several occasions in October.
The embassy did not identify those behind the reported threats or provide details on the type of weapons that could be used.
It advised U.S. citizens not to travel to the Amhara Region, including Lalibela, the Tigray Region or the Afar Region.
Americans already in those areas were advised to leave if it was safe to do so or shelter in place until conditions improve.
The embassy also urged citizens to monitor local media for updates and remain in contact with their airlines for notifications on flight operations.
The warning comes amid renewed fighting in northern Ethiopia, with clashes reported in Tigray and other areas.
Recent reports have also raised concerns over the possible expansion of attacks towards Addis Ababa, although details surrounding some reported incidents remain unverified.
