Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, has strongly condemned the continued killings across Nigeria, accusing the government of failing to take decisive action against the worsening insecurity.
Speaking during a sermon, Oyedepo declared that those responsible for the bloodshed, as well as those sponsoring them, would face divine judgment. He said he could not pray for people responsible for the killings.
“You can’t slaughter members of my family and want me to pray for you. I pray against you, against your household, against your generation, in the name of Jesus,” he said.
The bishop further alleged that the perpetrators were being sponsored, saying, “Everybody knows that these wicked people are being sponsored. Anyone who doesn’t know that has a problem. Every sponsor of killers in Nigeria, you come under a curse today. The curse of the Lord hits you today.”
Lamenting the persistent violence, Oyedepo accused the government of remaining silent despite the continued loss of lives.
“Do you know how they kill people every day and government is pretending not to know what to do? I’ve kept quiet. When you see God keep quiet at wickedness, it’s because the bubble is about to burst,” he said.
Quoting scripture, he added, “I’ve long time held my peace, God said, but now I’ll rise like a wounded lion and I’ll devour at once,” insisting that “when you see God keep quiet at the wickedness of the wicked, it’s because the bubble is about to burst. This bubble will burst.”
Oyedepo also questioned the government’s response to the attacks, asking, “I’ve not had any statement from government quarters against the killings. I’m yet to hear one. Are human lives not of value anymore?”
He further criticized what he described as misplaced priorities, saying, “And now you mustn’t preach in the bus, is that an issue? My God, do you think we’re dummies?”
The cleric concluded by maintaining that God had assured him that “the bubble will burst,” adding that those sponsoring or enabling the killings would ultimately face divine judgment.
