The Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering stance against negotiating with criminal elements, declaring that his government will not yield to bandits terrorizing communities across the state.
Governor Lawal made this known on Thursday during a condolence visit to Bungudu Local Government Area following a recent bandit attack that claimed several lives and left many families in mourning.
The visit began at the palace of the Emir of Bungudu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, where the governor outlined ongoing efforts by his administration to restore peace and strengthen security across Zamfara State.
Addressing the Emir, community leaders, and grieving families, Governor Lawal expressed deep sympathy over the tragic incident and called for patience and resilience.
“I am here to express my heartfelt condolences to the families, the Emir, and the people of Bungudu over last week’s bandit attacks,” he said. “This is a test from Almighty Allah, and we will overcome it. The state government is committing all necessary resources to end the menace of banditry. I urge everyone to remain patient, as tackling this challenge requires perseverance and steadfast prayers.”
He further assured that the government would continue to support victims and intensify efforts to secure the release of those abducted.
“We will continue to provide all necessary assistance to the injured and do everything within our power to ensure the safe return of all kidnapped victims,” the governor added, while praying for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives.
In his response, the Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, commended the governor for his leadership and commitment to addressing insecurity in the state.
“As a member of the state’s security council, I am aware of the governor’s tireless efforts. I am confident that, with time, we will overcome the challenge of banditry,” the monarch said. “Your condolence visit means a great deal to the people of Bungudu.”
During his visit, Governor Lawal also met with the families of the late Alhaji Bello Umar Bungudu and other victims, offering personal condolences and solidarity as they navigate their loss.
