13 Feared Dead, Many Injured in Fresh Attack on Plateau Community

No fewer than 13 persons have been killed following a fresh attack by gunmen on Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Several other residents reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries during the midnight assault, which occurred in the early hours of Friday.

A resident of the community, Philip Alanga, who confirmed the incident in Jos, said the attackers invaded the area around 12 a.m., shooting indiscriminately and attacking residents with machetes and other dangerous weapons.

According to him, the assailants moved from house to house, leaving many residents terrified as families fled into nearby bushes for safety.

“They stormed the community at midnight and began shooting and attacking innocent residents. Many people were killed while others escaped with injuries,” he said.

Another resident, Chigoji Rocku, disclosed that three pregnant women were among those killed during the attack.

The Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Auta, also confirmed the incident, describing the attack as tragic and unacceptable.

He expressed concern over the recurring violence in Bassa Local Government Area and other parts of the state, urging security agencies to strengthen efforts to protect vulnerable communities.

Auta further called on security operatives to identify and arrest those responsible for the killings in order to prevent further bloodshed in the area.

Efforts to get an official reaction from the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
