Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State, Chief Ocho Obodoeze, has promised to tackle the root causes of insecurity in the State if he becomes the Governor.
Obodoeze made this promise in Enugu at the ADC Enugu East Senatorial District Structure Verification Exercise/Showcasing of Candidates for all elective positions.
Obodoeze identified unemployment as one of the root causes of insecurity, which he intends to address by creating agro and tech hubs, as well as sports academies to keep the youths engaged.
The governorship hopeful noted that his “Ochoudo 2027 Agenda for Enugu State,” places security first in its priority list, owing to its very crucial role in the socio-economic development of any society.
He described security as paramount and indispensable, pointing out that nothing can be achieved in an atmosphere of insecurity, in which terrorism, banditry and kidnapping thrive.
He said, “Ochoudo Security Plan encapsulates the deployment of latest modern security architecture and effective community policing, involving real partnership between all stakeholders.
“We are going to have intelligence driven policing, not just people wearing uniforms and parading themselves up and down.
“Everybody will be involved. Traditional rulers, youth groups and security agencies all have roles to play.
“As part of our security plan also, we intend to fight crime with technology by installing CCTV cameras in markets, junctions and other strategic locations, and lighting up everywhere with solar street lights.’
Speaking further, Obodoeze assured that under him as the Governor, Enugu State will have a standby rapid response system that actually responds promptly to security threats, and not merely in existence for the optics.
He pledged to comprehensively reform the justice system in Enugu State, to hasten justice for victims of crime.
Obodoeze promised to establish a special desk in government house to follow up on victims of crime to see that they overcome the trauma and put the experience behind them, in order to move forward with their lives for the benefit of the society.
Besides security and justice reforms, the ADC governorship candidate listed other priority areas of his agenda, including education, social security, healthcare delivery and economic growth.
He said his administration will facilitate economic growth by improving the ease of doing business and creating the enabling environment for massive local and foreign investment in Enugu State.
He urged ADC members in Enugu to work very hard for the victory of their candidates in the forthcoming general election.
“I can win the election, if you win your polling units. If I succeed, we will recognise and reward all those who worked for the success of our party. They are the people that our government will offer appointments.
“Commissioners, special advisers and other categories of appointees will be selected from those who deliver their polling units on the day of the election,” Obodoeze said.
Earlier, the Enugu State Caretaker Committee Chairman of ADC, General Chris Eze (Rtd), appealed to all the party members to work very hard to deliver all the candidates of the party, both at the national and state levels.
Similarly, the Director General (DG) of Ocho Obodoeze Governorship Campaign Council, Dr. Walter Oji, urged party members to spread ADC’s message of genuine change in Enugu State and Nigeria at large.
“We are tired of President Bola Tinubu in Nigeria. We are tired of Peter Mbah in Enugu State. Ocho Obodoeze is the man to change Enugu State. He will run a transparent and inclusive government,” Oji said.
The Campaign DG added that Obodoeze possesses the integrity, character and experience to offer good governance and make life more meaningful for the people in Enugu State.
