Brigadier General Dikko A.M., Commander of the Nigerian Army’s Ohafia Division, has expressed concern over the low number of youths from Abia State who joined the Nigerian Army during the most recent recruitment exercise.
The military officer disclosed that the state produced only about 100 recruits, a figure he said left him worried about his performance as a commander.
Speaking about the development, Dikko said he felt he had disappointed his superior because of the low turnout of applicants from the state.
“As Commander here, during the last recruitment, Abia produced only about 100 recruits. I was worried because I felt I had failed my boss,” he said.
His remarks have drawn attention to the level of participation of young people from Abia and other parts of the South-East in military recruitment.
The development also raises questions about the factors that may be influencing youths’ decisions to enlist in the Nigerian Army, including career preferences, awareness of recruitment opportunities and perceptions of military service.
