Amotekun Arrests 301 Suspects, Secures 27 Convictions In Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, says it has arrested 301 suspects and secured 27 convictions within two months in its operations across the state’s 18 local government areas.

The corps said 102 cases were resolved through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) within the period.

The Commander of the corps, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this on Tuesday in Akure while parading 15 suspects arrested for various offences and launching its 2026 Ember Months patrol, tagged Operation Laafia Dandan.

Adeleye said the parade was organised to present the corps’ operational scorecard in the fight against criminal activities between August and October 2026.

He said the 15 suspects paraded comprised four persons arrested for alleged violations of the anti-grazing law, two for breach of law and order, and nine over alleged kidnapping-related offences.

The commander disclosed that the corps had also arrested three suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in the abduction of a poultry farmer and the killing of a woman.

“I’m glad to let you know that we were able to apprehend the three major kidnappers that actually kidnapped the poultryman and killed the lady. They are with us today.

“The victim has identified them and the suspects have also confessed to the crime. This goes a long way in showing that Ondo State is not a place where criminalities could thrive,” he said.

He explained that the 27 convictions attracted various jail terms or options of fines, while some kidnapping victims were rescued and prevented from paying ransom.

Adeleye attributed the achievements to the support of Amotekun ambassadors across the 18 local government areas, plain-clothes intelligence officers, local hunters, vigilantes and other security agencies.

On the newly launched operation, he said Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had intended to be physically present at the launch of Operation Laafia Dandan.

According to him, the operation will involve the training and retraining of personnel, including investigating officers, as well as improved preparation of criminal records and retraining of mechanics and drivers across the local government areas.

He said the corps was winding down its previous operation to commence full-scale Ember Months patrol, with emphasis on intelligence-led surveillance along major roads, increased forest patrols by Amotekun Rangers and monitoring of identified black spots.

“We will be deploying about 1,200 men in the 18 local governments with specific emphasis on our border patrols across the board,” Adeleye said.

He reassured residents that the state remained safe, adding that the corps would sustain round-the-clock patrols across major roads, forest reserves and the metropolis to protect lives and property.
