The APC has retained both consensus and direct primary options for it’s party primary, noting that while consensus may be adopted where agreed, any dispute among aspirants will automatically trigger direct primaries.

The declaration was made after the National Working Committee Meeting held at the party’s national secretariat.
The All Progressives Congress has also officially opened it’s nomination process for the 2027 general elections, announcing that forms are now available to all eligible members without restriction.
Deputy National Publicity Secretary Duro Meseko unveiled a revised timetable for primaries, congresses and other electoral activities, aligned with the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said the updated schedule, already transmitted to INEC, underscores the party’s preparedness for the 2027 election.
Under the new timetable, sale of nomination forms will run from 25th of April to 2nd of May 2026, while submission of completed forms closes on 4th of May .
Screening of aspirants for State Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship positions is fixed for 6th of May to 8th od May with presidential screening slated for 9th of May .
Screening results will be published on 11th of May, followed by appeals from 12th May to 13th of May .
This signals the start of heightened political activity within the governing party as aspirants across the country gear up for the 2027 general elections .
