Senator Chukwu Kelvin Chizoba, who represents Enugu East Senatorial District, is facing questions over alleged inconsistencies in documents he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of his bid for re-election in the 2027 general elections.
A review of the records by SaharaReporters reportedly identified discrepancies involving his declared date of birth, primary school history, university qualification and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) records.
According to the documents, Chizoba declared under oath that he was born on January 10, 1972.
However, the same records reportedly indicate that he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1977. If the dates are accurate, this would mean he completed his primary education at about five years old, an age that appears unusual given Nigeria’s conventional six-year primary education structure.
The documents also reportedly contain questions concerning his university qualification and NYSC history.
In his sworn submission to INEC, Chizoba stated that he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree on June 22, 2021.
However, his NYSC certificate reportedly shows that he completed the compulsory national service programme between June 9, 1997 and June 8, 1998.
The records therefore appear to place his NYSC completion about 23 years before the date he declared for obtaining his LL.B degree, raising questions about the sequence of his academic qualifications and national service.
SaharaReporters reportedly contacted the senator for clarification and asked him to explain the discrepancies, including the relationship between his declared date of birth and his 1977 primary school certificate.
He was also reportedly asked to explain how he completed NYSC in 1998, decades before the 2021 date listed for his LL.B qualification.
As of the time of the report, Chizoba had reportedly not responded to the requests for comment.
