The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has asked former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva to make himself available for questioning over an alleged $14.86 million fraud case.
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale made the position known on Monday while responding to allegations by Sylva that the anti-graft agency had increasingly conducted itself as an organ of the All Progressives Congress rather than as a state institution.
“He has been declared wanted; he should make himself available to the commission,” Oyewale said.
The development comes shortly after Sylva announced his resignation from the APC on August 31, 2026. In his resignation letter, the former governor criticised the party’s leadership and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Sylva also copied the EFCC in the letter and alleged that the commission had become increasingly politicised. He said he was aware that his decision to leave the APC could bring further pressure on him and his associates.
The EFCC had declared Sylva wanted in November 2025 over an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion involving $14,859,257 linked to refinery project funds.
Sylva has denied wrongdoing in the matters against him, and he has not been convicted of the allegations.
The timing of the latest EFCC call has triggered reactions online, particularly because it followed Sylva’s resignation from the APC.
