The Federal Government has cautioned media organisations and institutions over what it described as repeated inaccuracies in the official appellation of President Bola Tinubu, urging strict adherence to his correct title in all publications.
The warning was issued on Friday in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, through his media aide, Yomi Odunuga.
According to the statement, the clarification became necessary following a recent publication by a national newspaper on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, which reportedly used an incorrect form of address for the president.
Akume stressed that the proper and official style of address remains: “His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He urged journalists, publishers, and organisations to always verify official titles before publication to avoid what he called avoidable and embarrassing errors in both print and digital media.
The SGF also noted that official confirmations and verifications can be obtained through his office’s verified communication channels on social media platforms and email.
