Tinubu made the promise during a business lunch while campaigning for the 2023 presidential election.
The then presidential candidate vowed that Nigerians would enjoy electricity by all means necessary and would no longer have to pay estimated bills.
He also pledged to fulfil his promise, declaring that Nigerians should not vote for him for a second term if he failed to deliver on it.
“By all means necessary, you must have electricity and you will not pay estimated bills anymore. A promise made will be a promise kept. If I can’t keep the promise and I come back for second term, no vote for me,” Tinubu said.
@mr_prolific: “Imagine campaigning with the same basic amenities you used over 4 years ago. This is the same thing Nigeria government has been campaigning with for years and years. How long will you people keep on selling Nigerians dreams? How long will this same story and broken records keep on repeating?”
@nom: “And that’s why @IkejaElectric is reminding us of his promise. Vote wisely.”
@Xaffy11: “By any means necessary, you must have electricity. Now he has failed and it is time to face the consequences.”
@Chinedu Samuel: “He failed woefully, he didn’t keep the promise but we will keep our own promise by voting the mannequin out.”
@rayfixy: “He made the greatest mistake delivering this speech.”
@Bahz: “Sir if you don’t do anything for us, and kept the promise you won’t have the reason to campaign for the second term because that’s enough campaign but see you now struggling for the second term, I don’t think we can survive another 4 years with you in office.”
@o_ufomadu: “The unreal part is that the sycophants who are campaigning now don’t even have electricity in their homes and areas as we speak and are campaigning for someone who after promising power in 2023, used N10b of their money to go off the grid and run the Villa on 100% solar energy.”
@Glitterati: “The President promised Nigerians uninterrupted electricity, yet here we are, just a few months away from another election, and we’re experiencing total darkness. Is this some kind of deliberate rage bait? What baffles me even more is that some people still have the audacity to defend him.”
@Godswill: “Since last week, no light in my area, my place uses the 33 line, we used to have steady light. When this promise was made, I was having a better electricity supply than now.”
@oracle_671: “In the history of campaign promises not kept, this is top 2 and its not even number 2. Considering the electricity is even worse today compared to when he made the statement.”
This comes amid the continued public concerns over electricity supply, with Nigerians frequently taking to social media to complain about prolonged blackouts and the cost of alternative sources of power.
